Bangladesh Victory Day 2022

Every year on December 16, all Bengalis celebrate Bangladesh Victory Day together.  On this day in 1971, at the end of the nine-month liberation war, the Pakistani forces surrendered at Dhaka’s Race Course Ground (present-day Suhrawardy Udyan). The independent Bengali state of Bangladesh emerged through the final victory.  The feeling of victory is always happy.  But at the same time, it is also a day of pain, especially for those who have lost loved ones.  Our freedom is the product of countless sacrifices.  We remember the martyrs of the liberation war with deep respect. Women who were victims of terrible torture.

Under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from 1948 to 1952, the language movement of 1952, the six points of 1966, the mass uprising of 1969, the historic speech of 7 March 1971, when the genocide began on 25 March, Bangabandhu’s declaration of independence in the early hours of 26 March, 17 April  The formation of the Mujibnagar government and the bloody liberation war gained freedom in return for the sacrifice of 30 lakh martyrs and 2 lakh, mothers and sisters.  On December 16, 1971, the final victory was achieved through the surrender of the Pak Army.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman successfully led the struggle for the socio-economic and political rights of the people of this country as well as the establishment of an independent state. He inspired millions of people toward freedom. He was accompanied by a group of political leaders steadfast in their pursuit of the same goal. We remember all of them with deep respect on this Bangladesh Victory Day.

On this day, the journey of an independent Bangladesh began with a dream. Every year, all Bengalis celebrate this day with the joy of Bangladesh Victory Day.

History of Bangladesh Victory Day

In August 1947, undivided India was broken and two independent states named Pakistan and India were established.  Based on bi-ethnic theory, our East Bengal was included in Pakistan with the name East Pakistan.  Because of the majority, the Muslims of East Bengal got an independent country of Pakistan, but in reality, they could not share the fruits of independence.

They soon realized the big mistake they made by becoming partners in the religious Pakistan state, leaving aside the integrity of Bengal.  West Pakistanis want to subjugate East Pakistan with skillful tricks.  Wants to impose Urdu as the language of Bengalis.  The students erupted in protest.  They claim that they want Bengali as the national language.  The movement began. Many people including Salam, Barkat, Rafiq, Shafiq Jabbar were martyred while marching on February 21, 1952.  The movement began to gain momentum.

A massive mass awakening took place through the historic six-point and eleven-point movements.  As a result, the dictatorship of Ayyub Khan fell in 1969 through a successful mass uprising.  After this, Yahiya Khan brought martial-law powers.  General elections were announced in 1970 under the pressure of intense agitation.  The undisputed leader of Bengali in the election.  Awami League won under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.  He is supposed to be given the responsibility of running the state due to related reasons.

But the blue design of the conspiracy begins.  On the night of March 25, 1971, the Pakistani invasion forces launched a surprise attack.  On unarmed Bengalis.  They carried out indiscriminate killings in Pilkhana, Rajarbagh, Dhaka University area, and other parts of the country.  Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was arrested by the invading forces after midnight.  Before his arrest, that is, in the early hours of March 26, he declared the independence of Bangladesh.

The declaration message signed by him was sent to Chittagong through the transmitter of the then EPR.  After that, the declaration of independence was broadcast in the name of Bangabandhu on March 26 and 27 from Swadhin Bangla Betar Center in Chittagong.  Spontaneous liberation struggle spread all over Bengal.  After nine months of bloody struggle, 16th December 1971 saw the day of Sane.  The Bengali nation gained independence, and got a map, and a flag.

The spirit of Bangladesh Victory Day, and the commitment of the younger generation

By winning the bloody war in 1971, Bangladesh became recognized as an independent sovereign country in the world.  The importance and significance of Victory Day in our national life are undeniable.  By celebrating the day every year, the young generation becomes aware of the history of the liberation war and the glory of the sacrifices of the forefathers.

They acquire proper knowledge about the freedom struggle, history-tradition, language-culture, etc. of Bengali ethnicity.  As a result, there is an attempt to introduce the nation to the global context.

A lot of research work is being done on the liberation war in recent times.  But these efforts and initiatives need to be strengthened and made more effective.  So that the next generation can hold the liberation war in their hearts.  Liberation war is the name of the spirit of the Bengali nation.  And Victory Day has spread that spirit in the lives of crores of Bengalis.

The freedom struggle of 1971 taught us how to rise against injustice, injustice, exploitation, and oppression.  Every year Victory Day inspires us to speak out against injustice.  The young generation should be inspired by the spirit of the victory gained in exchange for the blood of lakhs of martyrs and build resistance against the evil forces against the country.

As a Bangladeshi everyone has some duty towards this day.  Not only on one day of Victory Day but every person should be motivated by the spirit of victory and work for the country-nation, freedom-sovereignty from their positions throughout the year.  Initiatives should be taken nationally to preserve and promote the correct history of Victory Day.  It is the national responsibility and duty to identify those who are trying to mislead the next generation by distorting the history of freedom struggle and victory.

Victory Day is a day of joy and pain in our lives.  Every year the day comes back to remind us of the memory of lakhs of martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the freedom struggle.

Bangladesh Victory Day Achievement

After 51 years of victory, Bangladesh has achieved a lot.  We have turned from a low-income country to a middle-income country.  Bangladesh can do big projects like Padma Bridge with its financing.  Post-independence, maternal mortality rates have fallen dramatically, and life expectancy has increased.  Bangladesh has been recognized as a role model in immunization and preventive healthcare.  However, many of the dreams and expectations that started the journey of independent Bangladesh have not yet been fulfilled.

We have not been freed from corruption, loopholes in the education sector, procrastination in the judicial system, and religious intolerance.  Inadequate investment in the health sector and lack of adequate manpower and advanced equipment have not allowed our health sector to reach the desired goals.

In a speech on December 15, 1974, Bangabandhu said that we should rise above self-deception and take ourselves to the path of self-purification through self-criticism.  You have to choose the path of self-restraint.  We have to move forward with these words in mind.  Only then can we truly celebrate victory.
