World Hunger Day 2023 History, Significance, Quotes and Status

World Hunger Day is observed worldwide on May 28 every year. A non-profit organization called The Hunger Project took the initiative to observe this day. They take the initiative to celebrate this day to eliminate world hunger. The problem of world hunger has been going on for a long time. Starvation is a critical condition that results from prolonged starvation.

More than half of the world’s people still live in hunger. Poverty Low-income Famine Due to various crises they do not get the food they need.  According to the organization, 820 million people in the world still suffer from chronic hunger. The noblest act in the world is to feed the hungry. And this initiative is celebrated every year around the world. We should all strive to end world hunger.

Food is the most necessary thing for people to save a life. If a person is starved for a long time, various diseases take root in his body and the person dies prematurely. We constantly come across some people who live on the streets while moving around us.  Those who have no shelter. These people spend most of the day in hunger. Day after day they try to survive without eating.

As human beings, we should awaken our conscience. If everyone helps even one person from their place with food, it will be possible to reduce the hunger of the world. Saving a life is the most sacred thing and when a person becomes too helpless, we should stand by him/her and help him/her recover.

History of World Hunger Day

World Hunger Day was started by a non-profit organization called The Hunger Project. The first World Hunger Day was established in 2011. The main goal of establishing Hunger Day was to eradicate hunger in the world. Helping the world’s starving people with food. It is not possible to end world hunger with just some food, but a definite solution has to be created. World Hunger Day was established to address the problem by uncovering the reasons why people around the world are going hungry day by day.

Meeting the food needs of the people of the country depends a lot on the situation of the country.  When a country suffers economically, the income of the people of that country decreases, and people become poor. As a result of which the food production capacity of that country is greatly reduced and the people of the country continue to spend their days in starvation. But now it is possible to curb this hunger to a greater extent than before. Food production technology is improving day by day. Now in every country food is stored for the future. These improvements in food technology help preserve and supply food for longer periods. Refrigeration can store food for a long time.

5 years ago, Oliver Evans first discovered refrigeration. Due to this refrigeration, we can store food for a long time. Not only that, but food can also be transported intact over long distances. Nowadays, refrigerators are used for storing food in homes. Almost everyone, rich and poor, now has a refrigerator in their home. The refrigerator was first invented in 1913 by Fred W. Wolfe. Then it was discovered that through ovens we can heat food and preserve it for a long time. Ovens were first sold in the United States in 1891 and then in Britain in 1893.

Thus, various improvements are helping to curb hunger day by day. Improving food production goes a long way in eliminating food shortages and famines in a country.

Why do people celebrate World Hunger Day?

It would not be an exaggeration to say ‘Hunger’ is the most primitive, genuine, and basic word in the world. Hunger is a feeling that no words can match. Form, grace, beauty, and pleasure are all worthless to a hungry man. Feelings like love, poetry, or passion are hard to find in the realm of hunger. No matter how intense the suffering, hunger will eventually rear its head. It is not a matter of the rich not being able to eat a meal or two for lack of food. No father can close his eyes at home looking at the face of a hungry child.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Program (WFP) food crisis Nigeria, Yemen, and South Sudan are at the top of the list of regions and countries with catastrophic levels of acute hunger, according to a report published on the scaled-up areas. Apart from this, people in Afghanistan, Syria, Lebanon in the Middle East, Haiti in Latin America, and the Caribbean are already suffering from famine.

FAO Executive Director David Besley warned in his speech, “If they fail to meet their essential needs, there will be an epidemic of hunger. Factors such as floods, droughts, and heavy rains are responsible for hunger and poverty, as well as socio-political and economic instability.” But all that is secondary. The main reason is corruption. The main objective of World Hunger Day is to ensure healthy food for every hungry and needy person and to promote global awareness of the need to reduce food waste and improve food production agriculture at large and small scales.

If we all try to meet the food needs of even one person from our place, it is possible to eliminate world hunger to a large extent. Many qualified people in our society can take responsibility for a person’s diet. Calling on those people to take up the responsibility of poor people to end hunger. World Hunger Day is observed every year for this purpose.

How to celebrate World Hunger Day?

Hunger is a common human instinct. Human needs and livelihoods are born out of hunger. People eat food to satisfy hunger. Many elite people in our society eat good food every day and also waste a lot of food. They buy more food than they need and throw it away when they can’t eat it. On the other hand, some people in our society live day after day without food. Due to poverty, they cannot afford to buy a little food. If we think about a few days ago, many people around the world lost their jobs during the Corona epidemic.

Many countries in the world are in financial crisis. As a result, people’s income was stopped. Those families which have more members but only one person who can earn money have spent their lives in starvation day after day. Don’t do it. But only a few will take the initiative. Everyone has to come forward from their position to end the hunger of the people of the world. If all the capable people in our society work together to end world hunger, we will be able to tackle this problem to a large extent. May this be our effort today on World Hunger Day. Let’s know some ways to celebrate this day

Share food with your neighbor

Many families in our neighborhood are not provided with essential food. In families where there are many members but only one earner, the nutritional needs of all are not met, and not all get the food they need. Because the number of members is more, two members of the family go without food to satisfy the hunger of some mouths. If you have such families as neighbors, help them by sharing your food with them. Cook a little more when cooking lunch or dinner.

Go to your neighbor’s house with some food and give it to him/her. This will improve your relationship, as well as the food crisis of that family, will be removed. They will be able to satisfy their hunger.

Take responsibility for feeding a starving person

We constantly see some people living on the side of the road while traveling on the road. Those who are so poor that don’t have three meals a day. But we waste a lot of food even if we eat three meals a day.  With a little effort, it is possible to take responsibility for the food of all those people. If you take responsibility for feeding even one person, the number of world hunger relief will increase and the number of hungry people will decrease. Even the people around you will come forward for such great work after seeing you. We will be able to tackle this problem to a large extent if everyone does their part.

Arrange a tiffin

If you have a school, arrange a tiffin for children every day. Try to keep any nutritious food in the tiffin.  Many poor school-going students come to school without having breakfast in the morning. Cannot eat three nutritious meals due to family poverty. All these children suffer from malnutrition and become sick day by day. Due to a lack of nutrition, they suffer from major diseases in the future.

If we provide these children with tiffin for a small amount of money, then it will be possible to eliminate their nutritional needs. Celebrate the day with such a responsibility on World Hunger Day today. And inspire others too.
