After 51 years of victory, Bangladesh has achieved a lot. We have turned from a low-income country to a middle-income country. Bangladesh can do big projects like Padma Bridge with its financing. Post-independence, maternal mortality rates have fallen dramatically, and life expectancy has increased. Bangladesh has been recognized as a role model in immunization and preventive healthcare. However, many of the dreams and expectations that started the journey of independent Bangladesh have not yet been fulfilled.
We have not been freed from corruption, loopholes in the education sector, procrastination in the judicial system, and religious intolerance. Inadequate investment in the health sector and lack of adequate manpower and advanced equipment have not allowed our health sector to reach the desired goals.
In a speech on December 15, 1974, Bangabandhu said that we should rise above self-deception and take ourselves to the path of self-purification through self-criticism. You have to choose the path of self-restraint. We have to move forward with these words in mind. Only then can we truly celebrate victory.
