History of Labor History Month
Labor laws were created to give American workers their fair rights and improve their lives. It took more than a century of labor laws behind this work. When the Pilgrims arrived at Plymouth Rock in 1620, the group included several artisans who were laborers. The role of workers in the American freedom struggle was much more important. The primitive union of cabinet makers, cobblers, and carpenters was almost always present in cities along the Atlantic coast of America.
The Carpenters were also the host group at the Boston Tea Party in 1973. In New York in 1794, printers first went on strike for fair wages. Then one after another all the artisans started agitating for fair wages. Carpenters in 1797, cord weavers in 1799, and cabinet makers in 1786 all followed this striking pattern. Then various unions and federations came together to reduce their working hours thinking about the workers. From 12 hours it became ten hours, and it was decided in 1820.
A labor meeting was held in 1881 where all the workers came together and took a decision. Printers, merchant seamen, and steel workers, as well as several other types of workers, joined together to form the new Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions.
