American Citizenship Day 2024

American Citizenship Day is Celebrated Officially On March 2 in Puerto Rico. The US Citizenship Test (also known as the American Citizenship Test, US Civics Test, US Citizenship Test, and US Naturalization Test) is a test that all immigrants must pass in order to become a citizen of the United States. Spanish colonial rulers ruled without consulting the local people.

After Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States in 1898, the United States employed all of the island’s administrative officers.  Although Puerto Ricans have been granted US citizenship since 1917, the island maintains its status as an occupied territory. The interim military government established on the island ended in 1900 after Congress passed the Force Act, which formally established a civil government in Puerto Rico.

After enjoying considerable autonomy during the last years of Spanish colonial rule, many Puerto Ricans remained under the control of the United States.

In 1917, Congress passed the Jones-Shafroth Act, which granted US citizenship to all Puerto Ricans and made Puerto Rican men eligible for the military draft. About 18,000 residents of the territory were subsequently drafted into World War I.

History Of American Citizenship Day

It is located approximately 80 km east of the Dominican Republic, approximately 65 km west of the Virgin Islands, and 1,600 km southeast of the US state of Florida.  The north coast of this densely populated island faces the Atlantic Ocean.  Off the east coast are two small islands called Vieques and Culebra; They are administratively part of Puerto Rico.

So is Mona Island to the west.  Puerto Rico is about one-fifth the size of the Dominican Republic, one-third the size of Haiti, and about the size of Jamaica when compared to other islands in the greater Antillean chain.  The island is roughly rectangular in shape.  Its maximum length is 179 km in an east-west direction, and 63 km in the north-south direction.  Located on the northeast coast of Puerto Rico, San Juan is simultaneously the capital city, largest city, and major port.

As citizens of the Commonwealth, Puerto Ricans can elect a nonvoting representative to Congress and vote in presidential primaries, but cannot vote for the president because Puerto Rico is not part of the Electoral College. After three separate votes in 1967, 1993, and 1999 reaffirmed Puerto Rico’s Commonwealth status, most residents who voted in a 2012 referendum said they were not satisfied with the status quo and allude their preferred choice was statehood. Millions of voters left the second part of the referendum blank, leaving the question open for further debate.

The fifth referendum in 2015 ended with a majority vote in favor of the state, but only 23 percent of voters (a historic low) turned out.

Puerto Rico has a mild tropical climate.  The interior of the main island consists of a mountainous region, surrounded by a fertile coastal plain.  Puerto Rico’s topography and climate are highly favorable for the production of cash crops such as sugar and coffee.  In the late 18th century these exported crops began to play an important role in the island’s economy.

But much of the money thus earned went to Spain, and the island never developed a balanced, diversified economy of its own.  For most of Puerto Rico’s history, its economy has depended on foreign market demand and abnormal fluctuations in prices.

Although Puerto Rico’s relationship with the United States has recently been politically contentious, the vast majority of the island’s population still favors permanent relations with the United States.
